As a 25 year old male, disenchanted by the draconian Northern Irish political parties around me, I have found myself here, on The Labour Party NI website. I have donated. I have looked all around this website and I can’t help but feel there is simply not enough being done. Where are the candidates for Northern Ireland? Where are the voices? Where is the passion? I would love someone to please contact me and invite me to the next meeting.

This could be the S.N.P of Northern Ireland! Please start an expansion phase, I would love nothing more than to get involved but I refuse to do it through Sinn Fein. This could be the party that represents people from the whole spectrum of Northern Ireland but a bit of effort is needed. I can tell you from engaging with my age group that there is huge untapped potential in the 18-30 age group, a lot of whom don’t vote as they see current candidates as offering nothing new and still relying on the ‘green, orange’ divide to pick up votes. If a huge drive is started now the Labour party could be a major force in Northern Ireland politics and the United Kingdom as a whole.

Is this a serious site? It severely lacks any useful information, it hasn’t outlined any serious policies or given anyone a reason to join except equality. This party has very serious potential to lead into something bigger. A party both Catholic or protestant unionists can join without the squabbling of religion you could replicate the early success of NI 21 and attract centre left working class people (which NI is not short of either side of the religious divide). This party desperately needs to increase there profile by next election by trying to claim the independents and those progressive thinkers that are being forced to join sinn Fein because they see no other option. If you compare this to the conservative page it’s clearly lacking which is a shame. Youth need to start being attracted now labour works in Scotland and England and I see no reason it can’t work here. Bring forward the policies of benefiting the working class and have equality take a back seat as an added bonus. This will attract all walks of life. Big politics is needed in Ni to reconnect with the disillusioned pull your finger out and actually make a difference. But first work out the policies and put up serious points not just limping along on one main policy!
