Trade union organisers address Translink employees protesting the violent hijacking of a bus on Wednesday night.

The following is a press statement issued by the Labour Party in Northern Ireland (LPNI)
in response to recent violent attacks. 8 April 2021;

Following the attack on a Translink bus driver last night, and the recent attacks on police and journalists who have been assaulted while doing their job, LPNI supports the protest by Translink public transport workers at Belfast City Hall today.

LPNI appreciates how quickly Unite, Unison, GMB, NIPSA and the many other trade unionist organisations in the North have reacted to immediately support those workers under threat while rejecting the violence on our streets.

All attacks on transport workers, police officers, journalists and other workers doing their jobs by serving the community, must cease.

We call on all responsible politicians, in particular the UK and Irish Governments, the EU and the leaders of our local political parties, to take immediate political action to defuse the situation before it spirals out of control.
